The “Majestic” Shea Butter

I

I am so thrilled to write this very first post, expressing my undying love for shea butter. Yes, we all know how conditioning and moisturizing it is. It definitely does not fall short in that aspect.

Shea butter is not only popular for its nourishing properties but also its affordability. It is easily attainable yet provides mounds of benefits. Some wouldn’t believe that it also has the ability to heal and repair skin and hair. As it is 100% natural it is safe for pregnant women to use during pregnancy to prevent stretchmarks by softening the skin’s surface and increasing its elasticity as it stretches over time.

Here’s the thing though.. Shea butter has been proving a point for centuries. Founded, harvested and used predominantly by Central African countries as a day to day moisturiser and a skin and hair protector from the harsh sun. I would say it is safe to place this staple ingredient under the African ancient medicine category. Yes medicine, as it is also a commonly used ingredient in pharmaceuticals. This ingredient has been tested and studied by scientists over and over again. Finding scientific research and just general articles on it is just amazingly easy to find.

Shea butter is made up of (29 – 62) % oleic acid which is an Omega-9 fatty acid. How does this benefit the skin, you may ask. Well oleic acid is a fatty that our bodies already produce. Although during harsh conditions (such as GLOBAL WARMING), oleic acid helps improve the skin’s barrier. This fatty acid, as i said before, improves elasticity which also means that it is a great anti-aging ingredient or product. One other benefit is that it also improves wound healing

Here’s a few scientific articles worth reading if you’d like to dive deeper:
